Henry K. Ostien's Birth Record

Prior to 1906, no official birth records were kept in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. So, most of the first generation of Ostiens born in the U.S. applied for delayed birth certificates once they were adults.

One good thing about these delayed records is that they asked for detailed information about the person's birth, including information about their parents.

Henry K. Ostien's parents, Henry and Mary (Kunigunda) Ostien, were both born in Germany. As the record shows, Henry was born in Wilkins Township on 8 September 1885. Many of his brothers, sisters, and first cousins also filed official delayed birth records in the courthouse.
