Roolf - Ostien Marriage Record

The application for marriage shown below between John A. Roolf and Margaret Mary Ostien lists a couple interesting facts.

First, although we knew that John A. Roolf was a harness maker, this is the only record we know of that shows his home address of 67 Miller Street.

Second, it shows that Margaret Mary Ostien was born in 1870 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. This is puzzling, since the 1870 census lists her parents in Penn Township, Allegheny County, PA. Armstrong County is just north-east of Allegheny County, PA.

We still don't know much about what the Ostien brothers (Philip, Jacob, Henry, and Frederick) did from the time they arrived in America between 1864-1866 and before they settled in Turtle Creek starting in 1873 (when land records start showing up.) So, it's possible Armstrong County is a mistake, but it could be worth looking into.

John and Margaret were married in Holy Trinity Church in Pittsburgh on 5 Oct 1891. We also have a nice wedding picture of them. See John A. Roolf and Margaret Mary Ostien for more information.
