Roolf Funeral Cards

Presented here are images of funeral cards from Joseph Herman Roolf and his mother Mary Clara Roolf (nee Bruggeman).

Joseph H. Roolf was born in 1875 in Pittsburgh, PA. His father, Joseph Bernard Roolf (b. 1844) was the first Roolf to immigrate to the U.S., and is the only one of his family known to have done so. He left Hamburg for the United States in 1865. Joseph H. lived only 20 years, apparently never married, and little is known about him today.

Joseph H. Roolf's mother, Mary Clara Bruggeman, was born in 1848 in Pittsburgh. Her parents were both from Germany, explaining the German text on her funeral card.

Although they often don't seem important at the time, small momentos like these often live on and provide later generations simple reminders of those who have come (and gone) before.
