Henry D. West was the first of this family of Wests to arrive in Indiana. He was born in 1799 in Kentucky, and married Lucretia Capron (born in Vermont) on 4 Jan 1838 in Johnson County, IN.

Among Henry's eight children, Crampton R. (Reason) West (born 7 Sep 1840 in Indiana) is best known to us. His seven sons helped spread the West name throughout Indianapolis and beyond.

Two other families featured here married into the West family. William Bowman, born 13 Dec 1813 in Kentucky, had a daughter Nancy Bowman (born in 1852 in Indiana) who married Wesley Kinder (born 8 May 1848 in Lebanon, IN). Their daughter Effie Opal Kinder (b. 11 Nov 1878) married Franklin Crampton West (b. 20 Dec 1868). Wesley Kinder's grandfather, Samuel Kinder, can be traced back to Virginia, having been born there in 1774.
